窑洼是庐山居民的主要居住地。这里在第四纪冰川时期曾经是一个大冰斗，里面囤积了大量冰雪，冰雪爬过前端岩石冰坎进入峡谷，形成冰川U形谷，峡谷两边如同剪刀，故名。佛教净土宗祖庭东林寺地处谷口，整个峡谷气候宜爽，水质甘甜，植被丰富。前方砂岩垂直断口是庐山断块山特有景观。
